There is a reason why we’re raising the standards of Dementia Care in South Africa.
The Jura Care Village is a specialized dementia care village that incorporates many aspects of normal, everyday life into the lives of our residents. One of the biggest mistakes most care homes make is by unintentionally separating their residents from that which they may still remember, like visiting the hair salon and going to the nearest coffee shop or just taking a walk in a beautiful place.
These stimulating activities among many others not only provide a sense of purpose, but a way for memories to return. As the Jura Care Village develops, there will be many of these types of facilities, including a coffee shop, hair salon, beauty salon, tuck shop, exercise/yoga studio, library, greenhouse, aviary, multi-sensory stimulation room and a number of other stimulating facilities designed for people with Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
Our aim is to value the person, the individual… to support them to live their life as usual. And that is much easier accomplished outside the current South African care model, where cold hallways, restricting gates and fencing depict the limits of the residents’ physical and social lives. The Jura Care village is located on a 42 hectare coastal estate where our residents have ample room for continuing their lives, while being stimulated daily by the Jura Care Model.
“Our goal is to look at day to day life and create conditions for the residents so that they are stimulated by recognizable incentives to remain active in daily, precious life.”
